Last night I went for my first time to participate in this study. It was pretty interesting. I've never participated as a research subject before. When I was there, I didn't feel as though the shoulder massage did that much, but I slept really well last night, so I guess it was better than I'd thought. I have to go three more times (darn!). The EMG nodes under my eyes were kind of strange, but not bothersome. I'll be interested how the research turns out.

My poor husband can tell you that I like way too much FoodTV and HGTV. My favorite cooking show, however, is Nigella Bites which is on E! on Saturday mornings. Its probably a cross between the camera work, her accent, and her focus that food is fun and can be easily used to build community.

I have a modernized version of Spurgeon's Morning and Evening. This morning's meditation really stood out to me:Diligence
“Giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness.”
-2 Peter 1:5-6
If you want to enjoy the eminent grace of being fully assured of faith, then under the blessed influence and assistance of the Holy Spirit do what the Scripture tells you: “give diligence.” Be sure that your faith is the right kind, that it is not mere belief of doctrine, but a simple faith that depends on Christ, and on Christ alone.
Give diligent heed to your courage. Plead with God to give you a lion’s courage, that with a consciousness for right you may go boldly forward.
Study the Scriptures to get knowledge, for the knowledge of doctrine will tend to confirm faith. Try to understand God’s Word. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly” (Colossians 3:16).
When you have done this, add self-control. Pay attention to your body and have self-control without. Pay attention to your soul and have self-control within. Get self-control of lip, life, heart, and thought.
Then add to this, with the help of the Holy Spirit, patience. Ask Him to give you patience that endures affliction; patience that, when tried, you shall come forth as gold; patience so that you will not murmur or be depressed in affliction.
When that grace is won, seek godliness. Godliness is something more than religion. Make God’s glory your object in life. Live in His sight. Dwell close to Him. Then when you have godliness, add brotherly love. Have a love for all the saints and then add a charity that opens its arms with an intense love for their souls.
When you are adorned with these jewels, you will know by the clearest evidence your calling and election is sure. Then, I looked online and found the original text which is similar in meaning, yet different in wording/grammar."Giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge, etc." --2 Peter 1:5, 6
If thou wouldest enjoy the eminent grace of the full assurance of faith, under the blessed Spirit's influence, and assistance, do what the Scripture tells thee, "Give diligence." Take care that thy faith is of the right kind--that it is not a mere belief of doctrine, but a simple faith, depending on Christ, and on Christ alone. Give diligent heed to thy courage. Plead with God that He would give thee the face of a lion, that thou mayest, with a consciousness of right, go on boldly. Study well the Scriptures, and get knowledge; for a knowledge of doctrine will tend very much to confirm faith. Try to understand God's Word; let it dwell in thy heart richly.
When thou hast done this, "Add to thy knowledge temperance." Take heed to thy body: be temperate without. Take heed to thy soul: be temperate within. Get temperance of lip, life, heart, and thought. Add to this, by God's Holy Spirit, patience; ask Him to give thee that patience which endureth affliction, which, when it is tried, shall come forth as gold. Array yourself with patience, that you may not murmur nor be depressed in your afflictions. When that grace is won look to godliness. Godliness is something more than religion. Make God's glory your object in life; live in His sight; dwell close to Him; seek for fellowship with Him; and thou hast "godliness"; and to that add brotherly love. Have a love to all the saints: and add to that a charity, which openeth its arms to all men, and loves their souls. When you are adorned with these jewels, and just in proportion as you practise these heavenly virtues, will you come to know by clearest evidence "your calling and election." "Give diligence," if you would get assurance, for lukewarmness and doubting very naturally go hand in hand. I think I prefer the original :)

Martin Roth posted today (without permalinks :( I hate that!) with an often meaty description of the Top 10 Blogs on Craig's "Leaderboard." Somehow I'm high on the blog list (I think its mostly return links since I have a long link list), but all he could think of to say was, "Another online diary." I don't know quite how to take that. In one way, I'm somewhat hurt - is there nothing good to say about my site? Yet, on the other hand, I'd much rather people read Joel's blog, Mark's blog, or John's blog which I learn so much from reading.

Here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting medical studies.
1a) The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.
1b) The French eat a lot of fat and also suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.
2a) The Japanese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.
2b) The Italians drink a lot of red wine and also suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.
3a) The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.
CONCLUSION:
Eat and drink what you like.
Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

Jason mentioned that roller coasters seemed to beat us up worse than usual. He found this out because we went to Paramount's King's Island (FKA: King's Island) on Saturday when we rode The Beast. It was hot. There were lots of people there; thus, there were long lines. The tickets were free, so we stayed only 3-1/2 hours.
Friday night we stayed at his parents' house, and ate dinner at Mighty Casey's where a blues band was playing. The first part of their performance, they had a flute as part of their band. It was an interesting - but enjoyable addition. After a while, they changed the instruments: one of the guitarists started playing an accordion and the floutist played a washboard. This was also enjoyable to listen to. Mighty Casey's is going to change names and eventually become a micro-brewery. I'm sure we'll go back.
We also ate at the Village Ice Cream Parlor, which you've probably seen if you've seen the movie Milk Money twice. Once for ice cream after being at Kin ... pardon me, Paramount's King's Island, and a second time for dinner with Jason's parents to celebrate his mom's birthday - Happy Birthday (belated), Mom!

We use both Lawson and Lotus Notes at work for our HR/Payroll and email respectively. We have decided that we hate software starting with the letter "L".
To find the links above, I went, per usual, to Google and added their Google Toolbar to my browser. 'Tis cool, now I don't have to leave a page to go to a page to find the next page I want to go to ...

I've really enjoyed this article by P. Andrew Sandlin, but wasn't going to blog it until I saw this:When we are as troubled by the evil of lovelessness as we are the evil of Arminianism, we will come close to the Bible’s requirements of the saints. All I can say is a hearty Amen!

College Football fans! College Gameday's Kirk Herbstreit is doing his pre-season waltz through the major football conferences. This show is on daily (usually during the 5 o'clock hour) for the next several weeks. Last week he went through the top half of the PAC10, this week its the Big 12. I'm guessing the SEC and Big Ten will be the last couple of weeks.
If interested, you can listen online.
For all you non-football fans, I apologize - Ohio State is going to have a long season this year. In fact, Freshmen report to camp next week.
Otherwise, I'm so ready for football season to begin ...

Well, I don't have much of an excuse for my two week holiday from blogging, but I'll share what I've got.
First, I'm really trying to post only from home, I know you can't really tell from the times of many of my latest posts, but the frequency is at least lessened quite a bit. I'm feeling really convicted that I need to do my surfing/posting at home or at the least on my lunch hour, which is hard when there are so many good blogs that I like to read. This quote from Spurgeon's Morning and Evening today really hits home: "Citizen of heaven, let your walk and actions be consistent with your high dignity."
However, summer is upon us in Columbus, Ohio and the computer room in our cape cod home is in one of the poorly air-conditioned upstairs bedrooms and making the trek to sit in sweltering heat has barely encouraged me to check my email, let alone surf and blog.
Last week (the week of Independence Day), Jason and I both took the week off - me to kill some vacation days I was going to lose, and he so that whilst I was killing days, we could change our family room from 70s paneling darkness to this:
Once we had finished that task, and I cleaned house for a day or two, exhaustion tended to win over surfing, so I apologize, dear reader, for my lack of blogging, and hope to return to regular posting (in the evening!) soon. I appreciate your patience and forebearance.
