Academic Year 2012 in Review (R-girl)

R-girl also had a great year! She was introduced to almost every skill area and did well with them. I am thrilled to say all three of my children are competent readers.

R-girl is the wiggliest and giggliest of our children. She often gives the impression that she isn't paying attention ... but she is taking it all in.  I need to find a way to harness that energy and understanding to benefit her.

English:
  • R-girl completed learning to read with The Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading.  All three of my children have learned to read with this text and I'm very happy with their decoding ability.  Not only do they decode well, but the also have good comprehension.
  • R-girl began First Language Lessons 1 this year (at her request). She understands the concepts, but we weren't very consistent with this part of her lessons.
  • R-girl has begun cursive and I expect that her writing will improve greatly this year.
Math:
R-girl completed MEP Reception and working on more than half of Year 1. Focus is her biggest difficulty and quick recall of her math facts.
Logic:

She absolutely loved Lollipop Logic and began Critical Thinking Activities.  Her spatial awareness often surprises me it's so good.

Geography:

She began the Evan-Moore geography this year.  She hasn't gotten very far, but I find it to be one of the most valuable set of workbook pages I've seen (and one of the few we use).

  1. I think I *just* realized that you do a year in a year--I mean not Aug-May but Jan-Dec. That is very Australian of you. ;)

Have you always done this? If not, how did it happen? Do you take time off for summer? How could I possibly have not known this???
